“The Stairway”

Berio Gizzi liked to juxtapose a variety of images in his paintings. The Stairway includes rendering of Van Eyke painting, one of his own landscapes, a photograph of his daughter, and a porcelain doll that can be seen in five other paintings in a series. The painting was done in oil on masonite. Mr. Gizzi was born in Abruzzo, Italy and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.
